Triratna – the Manchester Buddhist Centre, located in a converted warehouse in the Northern Quarter of the city centre, is open to the public Monday to Saturday. We offer a comprehensive range of courses, events and activities, including daily ‘drop-in’ meditation classes throughout the week.
Part of the international Triratna Buddhist Community, the Manchester Buddhist Centre has taught Buddhism and meditation to thousands of people since 1977. Focusing on core Buddhism, stripped of eastern cultural trappings, we aim to make the practice of Buddhism relevant to contemporary urban life in Manchester.
We place particular emphasis on kalyana mitrata (friendship) and the creation of sangha (community) as important conditions for effective Buddhist practice. This is reflected in the way we teach the Dharma, our culture of participation and our promotion of community engagement.
